We are a classroom of researchers, educators, and learners in Haverhill, MA providing a high quality Montessori education for children ages 2.9 to 6 years of age.
Welcome to Birch Tree Montessori School!
Our school is designed in detail for children, as if school were their home. A peaceful classroom features a brightness that inspires. Natural materials foster children’s innate desire to learn. Our school is intentionally small—just 20-25 children—and diverse. It’s led by nurturing teachers who have committed years to their craft and to Maria Montessori’s beliefs and time-tested methods. Children get to follow their interests along paths that the teachers design to ensure students are mastering core subjects and developing socially and emotionally.

Birch Tree Parent
I can't imagine any better place in the world than [Birch Tree] for a preschooler or kindergartener to learn and grow, and I strongly recommend it to anyone looking in the area.
Birch Tree Montessori offers a holistic approach to the development of young children by nurturing body, mind, and spirit in a joy-filled classroom to promote a lifelong love of learning.
Birch Tree aspires to give all children and families the opportunity to choose high-quality, beautiful learning environments in an inclusive, caring, and diverse community.
Montessori schools, like other communities, often reflect the personalities and preferences of the people who comprise them. While there is no one way to implement Montessori, there are some key presumptions Montessorians make about children that help to inform the environments we design:
We believe children are intrinsically good:
Montessori presumes that the natural state of children is positive, that children will do the right thing if given the opportunity, and that when children’s behavior is less positive, it reflects some obstacle to the child’s natural state.
We believe children are intrinsically peaceful:
Montessori classrooms are often noted for their peaceful, gentle climate, within which children of differing ages and development seem to interact with each other with less conflict and more joy. We believe this is the natural condition of childhood; so, when conflicts do occur, we look to the physical design of the classroom, the developmental differences among children, or the choices of the teacher to resolve the issue.
We believe children are intrinsically motivated to learn:
Montessori shies away from traditional models of punishment and reward, believing that children’s motivation to learn is natural to them and continues to blossom in environments that allow authentic learning.
